How C5T’s PMP Bootcamp Improved My Career

By Former PMP Bootcamp student Emily M.

What made me want to go into Project Management?

Ever since college, I knew that I wanted to climb the leadership ladder in my career. Through extracurriculars, I took on leadership positions for various organizations and enjoyed leading my teams to find new and innovative ways to solve problems. I enjoyed being a change enabler, thinking outside the box, and working with individuals to find where they could excel the most. I learned about PMI during my senior year and started tracking my hours for the PMP certification.

Finding C5T bootcamp

After hearing from other PMPs that the exam was difficult and required intense studying, I was hesitant to dive into the curriculum. I noticed C5T offered a PMP Bootcamp and reached out for more information regarding what the class entailed. I learned that the Bootcamp included study materials and a recommended schedule for what and when to study. Knowing that the class sizes were small also encouraged me to sign up, because I knew I could ask my questions and have them answered.

Experience in class

Walking into the classroom was exciting and a little nerve-wracking. I had a feeling I might be the youngest person in the class, but I knew that I had the motivation to complete it. Our instructor was very knowledgeable and had many years of experience across many disciplines, which led to incredible discussions about various situations. I learn best by example, so our open discussions about real situations we have faced, coupled with working through different exercises, gave me a real understanding of what it would take to be a successful Project Manager.

Experience after class

During class, we were given numerous tips on how to best study for the exam and even had the opportunity to take a practice exam. I reviewed my notes, studied flashcards, and read literature provided by the Bootcamp in preparation for the exam. Throughout my career, I worked on both Agile and Traditional projects, so this experience helped me relate what I was learning to real-life examples. It had been a few years since I had last taken an exam, so I was a bit nervous, but felt completely prepared in my knowledge of various Project Management processes, problems, and methodologies. I took the exam from my home about a month after class ended. Each question was easily tied back to the concepts I had learned in class and reinforced afterwards. The best part about taking the exam online is that your results are available immediately after you complete it.

Final remarks

I had a fantastic experience with C5T’s PMP Bootcamp; I felt confident in every step of the way that C5T had my back and wanted me to pass on the first try. When I had questions, they were answered in a timely manner. When I struggled with a concept, I was gently guided back to the topic, and it was presented in a different manner so I could understand. When I passed the  exam, C5T celebrated my success with me. I recommend this course to everyone working on projects, whether in a leadership position or not, because my understanding of the processes at work drastically increased. Within 6 months of my PMP certification, I was given a promotion and have been able to accelerate my career faster than I expected.
